In January 1986 printworkers held a year-long strike in the East London docklands area of Wapping. Due to controversial new anti-union laws, the dispute marked ‘one of the final deployments by the British union movement of mass picketing and secondary industrial action’ (Blisset, 2018) and has influenced the form strike action has taken in Britain ever since.
Fortress Wapping is a developing series of 394 GIF poems, one for each day of the strike.
